■About SDL
SDL : the competition of the graduation design of Japan is the open competition selecting the best work from many entries submitted by the students all over Japan.
We started the first SDL in 2003, and we have held 6 competitions with over 2000 entries. Last year, a large number of students came to Sendai Mediatheque to join the final event choosing the best one; we had to prepare extra seating for them to join the live broadcast of the event. In 2010, the 8th SDL will extend our broadcast connecting 2 large event spaces simultaneously including Hagi hall designed by Prof. Hitoshi Abe, chair of UCLA, and Prof. Yasuaki Onoda Tohoku University. As the exhibition space at Sendai Mediatheque has also expanded, we will have the most exciting day together with juries, architects and students in SDL.

■Concept
“Fairness”
We prepare and give chances equally to all students studying architecture in order to perform their skills in architecture design, influencing among all schools, teachers and students.

• Free entry. Recommendations from schools are not necessary.
• Organization by students.

“Open to the public”
The judgment will be open to the public where everyone can attend.

• The judgment will be held at the place widely opened by the citizens.
• We will publish the record of the Competition including the examination procedure as the official book and in the exhibition.

“Centripetal”
We choose the venue as a symbol of this Competition for Architecture design that everyone admits.

• SDL must be held in Sendai Mediatheque.
  
• All judges must be active in practices worldwide.
